An earthquake of magnitude 8.9 struck at 14:26 JST GMT+0900 with the epicentre approximately 130km off the coast east of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan at a depth of 24km. The shock has caused loss of life, homes and damage with blackouts, fire and tsunami. Two nuclear power plants were affected.
Kancho reports that everyone is okay but there was some damage to the roof of Honbu. |

A very exciting day as over 120 competitors from Australia and New Zealand fought for the top positions in each division. The new venue (Sydney University Sports Centre) proved worthy of the event as the audience was presented with the best view of the action. As with all Kyokushin knockdown tournaments, many highs and lows kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the final bell.

A very big day with over 230 enthusiastic competitors from around Australia and New Zealand at the Sydney University Sports Centre on two match areas. The audience were rewarded with great displays of form, skill, precision and timing. The karateka's age was apparently no barrier as the youngest to the oldest competitors vied for the top positions in each category.
