Most people would be content with being on top of their sport once in their lifetime; it’s a dream that drives the most disciplined of athletes to run faster, hit harder, swim farther and test the limits of human endurance and ability. But when it comes to the toughest form of full-contact karate in the world, few can lay claim to actually experiencing the exhilaration of winning a world championship, let alone doing it three times. Sydney’s Naomi Wood recently retired from competition karate having done just that. Here, she reflects on her stellar career. |
