News Title : Karate Demonstration at Natsumatsuri 2010 - Darling Harbour, Sydney, NSW

News Summary : Natsumatsuri (Japanese Summer Festival) is hosted each year by the Japan Club of Sydney at Darling Harbour, Sydney. The Sydney Area [Bondi Junction, Coogee, Daceyville, Young Tigers (Smeaton's Grange) & Unanderra/Illawarra] Kyokushin Karate Dojos fielded a demonstration team for the event.
   
News Detail : It was a rainy & wet day and the demonstration area was relocated to under the monorail overpass juxtapositioned between iMax theatre and Cockle Bay. Sensei Yoshida lead the "class" while Hanshi Taylor provided the commentary. The demonstration began with Sempai Smith performing Sushi Ho kata with Sempai Daniel reading the Dojo Oath. Then basics were performed by the team demonstrating various hand strikes and foot kicks. Next was a demonstration of Chion Bo kata by Sempai Wong followed by light kumite (sparring), first by the kids and then adults. The tameshi-wari (breaks) demonstration began with Sempai Archer performing mawashi geri (roundhouse kick) breaking a baseball bat then Sensei Slavos breaking boards with hand and foot strikes.
