News Summary : An earthquake of magnitude 8.9 struck at 14:26 JST GMT+0900 with the epicentre approximately 130km off the coast east of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan at a depth of 24km. The shock has caused loss of life, homes and damage with blackouts, fire and tsunami. Two nuclear power plants were affected.

Kancho reports that everyone is okay but there was some damage to the roof of Honbu.

News Summary : Queensland Kyokushin Karate pioneer Frank "Frankie" Everett passed away in his gym on Sat 20-Aug-2011. Amongst his original students were Shihan Tony Bowden and Sensei Steve Hardy. We wish to convey our condolences to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

News Title : Shihan Edward "Bobby" Lowe, RIP

News Summary : Shihan Bobby Lowe, [23-Aug-1929 to 14-Sep-2011](IKO International Committee Chairman, North & Central American Chairman, USA Branch Chief, 8th dan in the Kyokushinkaikan) passed away on Wednesday evening in Honolulu, Hawaii. Shihan Lowe was the first live in student (uchi deshi) of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama, founder of Kyokushin karate. He then opened the first Kyokushin Dojo outside of Japan in Hawaii in 1957. He visited Australia many times to attend the AKKA National Tournaments and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, and children, Barbara and Mike.
